Do you have a favorite piece of furniture? Maybe it’s a kitchen table… a comfy old recliner… a cool desk. Well, today we’re visiting a place that’s one of the furniture capitals of the world. And it might just be home to your next new favorite piece.
Welcome to the Hickory Furniture Mart. This is 4 floors of furniture under one roof. The beautiful town of Hickory was once home to over 40 furniture plants and was the thriving heart of the furniture world. That tradition is still alive and well today inside this amazing fortress of furniture.
While there are more stores here than we could hope to fit into our three-minute show, we’re visiting some incredible destinations tied to that history of hand-crafted furniture. And we’re starting out at Hickory White.
This local family-owned and operated business has evolved over the years but originally dates back to 1881 – rooted here in North Carolina. They customize everything, and continue that tradition that has made the town of Hickory famous the world over.
Up next, we’re heading from the century plus history of Hickory White to a relatively new kid on the block. This is The Graceful Geese Mercantile, a 17,000 square foot showroom that boasts over a hundred artists, artisans, and antique vendors.
This is another local business with wonderful ties to the Hickory community. The market features wide, breezy aisles and each vendor’s stall is like its own little store – where the craft-centric spirit of Hickory is thriving.
Finally, we’re finishing things up with one of the premiere leather furniture brands in the world that just happens to call Hickory home. This is Hancock & Moore.
Get ready for a multisensory delight: the sites, the smells, the textures… this is what furniture was meant to be like. If you want heirloom quality bought brand new today – this is your destination.
And folks, “destination” is the right word. The Hickory Furniture Mart is a sprawling wonderland of one incredible store after another. And we’ve barely scratched the surface.
