We’re exploring a place of fun, wonder, and experiential learning. If you are a fan of science and the natural world and want the chance to grab hold with your own two hands, then it’s time to set your GPS for the Spartanburg Science Center.
A feeling of childlike wonder takes over as soon as you walk inside. Here visitors are treated to a wide variety of hands-on science exhibits – from the fossil room, to virtual reality adventure, to the animal room.
Here you can get up close and personal to over 40 different fish, reptiles, and amphibians and learn about them, their habitats, and their place in our world.
The Spartanburg Science Center is located inside the Chapman Cultural Center – a hub of the arts, sciences, and humanities in Upstate South Carolina. This campus includes The Spartanburg Art Museum, and The Chapman Theatre which hosts a variety of artistic performances throughout the year.
The Spartanburg Science Center got its start in the early 1970’s when a group of 5 women in STEM felt that the Sparkle City would benefit from a nature science center. Today nearly 5 decades later their vision is still going strong.
This is a place where science comes alive – even if the artifacts on display may come from creatures long-since deceased. The fact that you can touch, feel, and examine almost everything in here really enhances that feeling of wonder and curiosity.
