We’re visiting Knoxville’s first – legal – distillery. Here in the Smoky Mountains making whiskey has long been part of the heritage of these hills. And we’re checking out how all that history wound up in these beautiful bottles.
Welcome to Knox Whiskey Works. Established in 2015, this small batch craft distillery exists to harness the skill, passion, and expertise of East Tennessee to create authentic, distinct, and delicious hand-crafted spirits.
And they do it using all local ingredients. This corn comes from Riverplains Farm in Jefferson County, Tennessee. And it’s milled at Valentine Mills just outside Sevierville. These guys are all committed to local. And if you watch the show, you know that Ingles is the same way.
You can buy a ton of great local products at Ingles – but local whiskey ain’t one of them – by law. So, we’re excited to come here and check out the awesome libations on offer here today – sampling some whiskey, gin, vodka and more.
And they all come from right here. There is a custom 300-gallon whiskey still as their primary workhorse, with a 50-gallon and another 25-gallon still chipping in. It goes from the still to the bottle or the barrel… and then into the glass.
They produce more than 10 distinct spirits here. The fan favorite is the Deals Gap Dragon Tail Honey Habanero Whiskey. You wanna talk about a drink with a kick! But the best way to tell is to come and sample for yourself.
Here you can sample all the spirits and learn about the process that goes into making each one. They’ll even whip up some awesome cocktails for you to enjoy. Just enjoy responsibly.
Here, surrounded by the brick walls of this 1800’s building and taking in the sights, sounds, smells, and flavors of Knox Whiskey Works, you really gain an appreciation for the true craft that goes into this entire process. And fortunately for all of us they’re pouring out the good times and raising a glass to a great day out.
