Pisgah Coffee Roasters has an international story that travels from sunny Italy to beautiful Brazil all the way to the tiny town of Pisgah Forest North Carolina, where we’re here to tell the tale of this delectable caffeinated creation called coffee.
This is Pisgah Coffee Roasters, whose story begins over a century ago when an Italian emigrated thousands of miles across the Atlantic Ocean to Brazil to start a new life and set their descendents on a path to producing some of the best coffee you’ll find anywhere.
This family business owned a 400 acre coffee farm in Brazil where head roaster Jotham grew up amongst 300,000 coffee trees. But when he came to Brevard College he never left. And today the best of Brazilian coffee is being made right here.
Literally. The coffee cherries are harvested in Brazil where the family sources their product, and then dried in the sun kind of like raisins. The beans are green when they’re separated from the fruit of the coffee cherry, and they come in through the port of Charleston and head straight here to this unassuming building just outside Brevard.
This is the roastery. And yes, it smells amazing. Here they roast those green coffee beans and they turn that beautiful dark brown “coffee” color – ready to be ground up and introduced to hot water to become something magical.
You can taste that something magical right here on-site. They have a great coffee shop and drive through attached to the roastery with every kind of drink you can imagine. And they also have yummy snacks and some really cool merchandise to take home.
This is a great place to cruise through or pop in to sit and savor. Just doing that is enjoyment enough but if you want to take that experience to the next level they offer tours every month to come in and learn and experience your very own tasting session.
The flavors here are representative of the region with names like Balsam Blend, DuPont Dark, and Panthertown Punch. You can pick them up here, or find them on the shelves of your local Ingles. And take our word for it – it’s a great cup of coffee.
