Are you planning a vacation or staycation in Asheville? If so, Chris Bainbridge has you covered. The Blue Ridge Mountains have been a tourist destination for more than a century. Check out some unique places to use as your home base as you explore this electric town.
Welcome to Montford, a historic neighborhood home to three next-door neighbors—B&Bs, each with a fun and exciting spin on Southern hospitality.
The Lion and the Rose is a beautiful home built in 1896 by a couple from Wisconsin. Rich people moving from out of town and building big houses is no new thing in Asheville. Current innkeepers Steve and Karen are the perfect fit for running a B&B in “Beer City, USA.”
Steve is a homebrewer and welcomes each guest with a complimentary pint. They also serve “beermosas” and use the spent grains from the beer in their bread, cookies, and yes, even dog biscuit recipes.
The next B&B, Black Walnut, is right next door. One could stay here and soak in this 1895 gem all day long. But one cool thing is how they help you get out and explore Asheville. If you watch the show, you know Bainbridge is a fan of the Ingles picnic. Well, these guys know how to send you on your way with a list of fun activities and a packed homemade picnic basket. It’s incredible.
The 1990 Montford Inn is the final stop on this tour of Montford Avenue majesty. This place is the best spot to spend your Saturday afternoons because it plays host to a terrific Appalachian tradition—pickin’ on the porch. As the music wafts its way in the front door, you’ll immediately notice the comfortable elegance and homey touches that innkeepers Willy and Shawnie foster to make you feel like part of the family. Gorgeous rooms and a gourmet breakfast are just the beginning here.
Spa treatments, adventure packages, murder mystery nights, and so much more are part of what make these destinations in this historic neighborhood so attractive. These aren’t just places to stay. They’re treasures to explore.
